Steinway & Sons Pianos
Steinway & Sons was founded in 1853
by German immigrant Henry Engelhard Steinway. Henry was a cabinet
maker who built his first piano in the kitchen of his Germany home.
By the time Henry established Steinway & Sons, he had built 482
pianos. The first piano produced by the company, piano number 483
this piano was sold to a New York family for 500 dollars.
What Steinway & Sons say about
their Steinway Grand pianos
For over a century, the world's most
accomplished pianists have preferred to express their musical genius
on Steinway & Sons pianos. The list includes the giants of 19th and
20th century classical, jazz, and popular music; the men and women
who have shaped the world's musical heritage. The joy of playing and
owning a Steinway piano, however, is not the exclusive domain of the
virtuosi. Rather, it is a world open to all who share a love of
music, fine craftsmanship and enduring quality.
Bechstein Pianos
Carl Bechstein was born in 1826. He
built his first vertical piano and founded the C. Bechstein company
in 1853. His ability in piano making revolutionized European piano
making all together. Carl Bechstein's contacts to great composers
were very fruitful.
Bluthner Pianos
Julius Bluthner to start his piano
making in Leipzig after having spent several years wandering from
one piano maker to another to improve on his knowledge of the craft.
In November 1853 he began with three men, and his instruments found
immediate acclaim among the musical bourgeoisie. Production grew
quickly. Soon his premises had to be enlarged and in articles
printed in newspapers and journals of these days Julius Bluthner
talks with pride about new machines that were added to his
production facilities or the fact that production was changed to
steam-driven machinery.
Bosendorfer Pianos
In 1828, Ignaz Bosendorfer was issued
the trade license number 225 669, and with it the right to take up
residence in Vienna, to manufacture pianos. This award marks the
beginning of the great history of a piano making that has not only
been closely linked with Vienna's musical development throughout the
19th, 20th centuries, but has also been the sole piano maker to
continuously uphold the Viennese piano making tradition at
Bosendorfer.
